Retreats

Give practice time and space

Retreat offers an opportunity to give sustained attention to practice. We set aside some of our usual activities, receive instruction, and allow time for meditation and reflection. With fewer demands competing for our attention, we can look more closely at experience and deepen our understanding of the teachings.

What we encounter may be peaceful, difficult, or unexpected. Retreat gives us a setting in which to work with that experience, supported by the instruction and structure of the gathering.

Here you will find retreat opportunities with me as they become available, along with guidance for preparing and carrying practice into the life you return to.

Upcoming retreats

Preparing to attend

Preparation begins with making room. Arrange what needs attention at home or work, understand the schedule, and review any instructions from the organizer. If there are readings or practices to complete beforehand, give them enough time.

Bring your questions and an intention to learn. Expectations about what retreat should feel like can make it harder to meet the experience we are having. We can approach with sincerity and curiosity, allowing the instruction to guide us.

Each retreat page will explain its particular arrangements, including what to bring and how to raise questions about participation.

Returning to daily life

The relationship between retreat and daily life continues after the gathering ends. What became clear in a period of sustained practice may need time, repetition, and further instruction to become familiar within our routines.

Before returning, consider what you can reasonably continue. That might be a regular meditation session, a practice given during the retreat, or a question to explore with your teacher. Make room for the responsibilities and relationships awaiting you, and notice how your understanding informs the way you meet them.
